Starts from Seed

I am always excited each year when I bring the grow light stand into my kitchen in late February, coupled with dreams and ambitions for another growing season. This homemade stand houses five, 4-foot, 6-lamp, high output grow lights. At full capacity it holds 30 flats of seeds. Last year this translated to 17,000 plants ultimately for sale in the greenhouse. Never ceases to amaze me!

There is a bell curve to the seeding cycle determined by our last frost date. The peak of the bell and height of the seeding frenzy is mid to late April, during which time we are seeding and potting around the clock, even by headlamp at times. Once all the rows of flats are potted I’ll reclaim my kitchen and the grow lights will go dark for another season!
