Astrantia ‘Star of Fire’

Astrantia Star of Fire

Commonly called Masterwort, Astrantia, is a vigorous, floriferous, umbelliferous and stoloniferous clump-forming perennial. The domed pincushion-like blooms arise on 2- to 3-feet tall, wiry stems above palm-shaped leaves in late spring and early summer. An excellent cut flower, prized for fresh and dried floral arrangements as bracts remain attractive well after bloom. This cottage-garden favorite is best grown in organically rich, medium to wet, well-drained soils in part shade or near a woodland edge. Dark stems and smoky burgundy-red flowers with white centers make ‘Star of Fire’ a standout.
